A strange and most entertaining documentary changed our family’s eating, and incidentally our lives, forever. I was already headed down the path of disgust with big business’s poisoning of products we buy. I quickly concluded they were killing me through their chemically created everythings; shampoo, laundry soap, artificial sweeteners, and the like. But after watching King Corn, I was astonished. You have to watch this documentary to understand the mind blowing truths presented. The documentary includes no intricate scientific experiments, no great professionals observing each step of the way, just two college guys who uncover startling realities about the food we consume, and what it does to our bodies. I might preface this by letting you know my husband’s blood pressure steadily increased over the last couple years, to the point his doctor was watching it very closely, expecting medicine would be the next step. We happened upon the King Corn documentary when his blood pressure was passing the 137 mark. As we watched King Corn, they discussed the shocking correlations present with corn syrup (created from genetically altered corn) and high blood pressure, and my husband began to wonder if his increase in non-dairy creamer over the prior couple years might be a contributing factor to his increasing blood pressure. It was a crap shoot, but one worth investigating. And if what the guys on King Corn were saying was true, there was a great chance! My husband totally cut out non-dairy creamer (almost entirely made up of high fructose corn syrup). In only three weeks, his blood pressure shot down from 137 to 106, and stayed there. Five months down the road, and guess what? My husband’s blood pressure has remained low and we are corn-syrup free. In this process, we also discovered corn syrup was in just about every single thing we were eating, and so, we have eliminated it. Now, when I ingest it, it even makes me ill. I am a huge proponent of the non-GMO movement now, and highly recommend the King Corn documentary, as well as any other informative piece that contributes to changing the way we live in the future.
